Abstract

Amidst China's rapid urbanization, the city of Guangzhou witnesses a burgeoning migrant population, bringing forth significant challenges in equal education opportunities for migrant children. This research embarks on a holistic exploration of these challenges, employing a combined qualitative and quantitative approach. Leveraging primary sources like interviews, focus groups, and surveys, along with a deep dive into academic journals and governmental reports, a nuanced understanding of the socio-economic and policy challenges is achieved. The empirical findings suggest that the barriers aren't mere policy frameworks but deeper societal perceptions and biases. However, the research doesn't just highlight challenges but illuminates pathways for remediation. Evidence-based policy recommendations, informed by successful strategies and practices in other cities, are elucidated, emphasizing the universal right to education. By adopting these strategies, cities like Guangzhou can forge a future where education remains unimpeded by migration status.
